- Chromosomes can hop from one pathogenic fungus to another. Probably not a good thing.
- Dogs originated in the Middle East after all. Decide, already, will ya?
- IUCN also has a Protected Area of the Day. Genebank of the day, anyone?
- Problems with bananas in Uganda surprisingly mainly abiotic. Live and learn.
- Vaviblog celebrates Gary Nabhan’s birthday. Kinda. Which is also St Patrick’s Day? How cool is that?
- Report on Haiti’s seed security. Needs digesting.

Slimmed down front page stories
Update: with the score tied at 1 all, I put in a poll, right.
I was getting a little worried that we were posting so many items a day that some might have been slipping under your radar. So I tweaked the home page to show excerpts of each story. You have to click to continue reading. And you can use your browser’s Back button to go back, or work your way through the Latest Posts links over on the right.

Jeremy: Both page styles look good to me. Your blog is a tremendous resource to me and my students. I do hope you are able to sustain it.
warm regards, Don
Too much tweak – I’d be happier scrolling down a longer page.
First, you all are running a great blog. Lots of fun material.
However, paring down the amount of pulp on the front page makes it a little less appealing for two reasons:
1. I read a lot of blogs off-line. Usually, I save the blogs I follow to my USB drive at an internet cafe so that I can read them at home later. Less pulp on the front page means that I can grab a lot less information by simply saving the entire front page.
2. When I am reading the blog on-line and want to read all the posts, I now have to navigate back and forth too much, which is just a hassle.
Either way, I will still follow your work. Great stuff. I just wanted to share a little opinion on the new layout…
Thanks a lot for all the comments, and the votes. It looks very much as if a little more housekeeping will be in order this weekend, going back to where we were. Or somewhere reasonably close to there.
