Intercropping: “Intercropping is a farming practice involving two or more crop species, or genotypes, growing together…” No. If the definition is based on genotypes then most traditional farming of any one crop is will be an `intercrop’. Farmers do not normally have the ability to sort out pure-line seeds for planting. We need to get back to the useful definition of two or more crop species together. It’s complicated enough already trying to work out advantages of real intercrops in a vast range of growing conditions.
