I wonder how many of the recently-published top 20 research questions on forestry and landscapes we can now tick off.

  1. At least one of these papers – “Utilization and transfer of forest genetic resources: A global review” (Section 5. Implications of the Nagoya Protocol on the forestry sector) indicates the enormous damage the CBD, the Nagoya Protocol (and, my argument, the ITPGRFA) does to the essential movement of plant genetic resources. I want to see Jacaranda (from the Americas) in Nairobi and the Atherton Tablelands of Australia, Eucalyptus from Australia in Brazil and Ethiopia and lots more besides. For Latin America and Africa on average, countries have 70% of their crop production from crops introduced from other continents. The UN system has massively failed to educate the world on the value of introduced crops and forestry species (and animals, fish and lots more). Is there any mechanism whatever to scrap these perverse legal frameworks and to close down the institutions still supporting them?
