  1. Both Moringa pods and leaves are also an important component of diets on many of the atolls in the Maldives. Immature pods are frequently used in local curries and Moringa leaves are sometimes used as part of a salad, sometimes fried. Both contribute significantly to an atoll diet that is usually low in vitamins. Moringa oleifera is also an important medicinal plant in the Maldives.
