Interestingly, the map of wildfires matches up to that of temperature anomaly more than to this one of high temperature records. Maybe someone will explain the difference.

And for those who just want the summary: “The work by Moritz and colleagues cannot tell us where fires will break out or how severe they may be, but it does tell us that overall fire danger and frequency will likely increase in Colorado.”

Based on some talks I’ve heard here at UW-Madison, I suspect that conifer-bark beetles and their complicated interactions with climate are also involved.
