New journal on Food Security

The new journal “Food Security: The Science, Sociology and Economics of Food Production and Access to Food” has two aims: (1) to define the constraints that prevent around one billion of the world’s population from accessing an appropriate diet i.e. one that is sufficiently nutritious to allow full development of physical and mental potential and (2) to address the means by which these constraints may be overcome. Food Security will cover the following topics: global food needs, the mismatch between population and the ability to provide adequate nutrition, global food potential, natural constraints to satisfying global food needs, nutrition, food quality and food safety as well as socio-political factors that impinge on the ability to satisfy global food needs. The journal will contain a mixture of original refereed papers, review articles, case studies, commentaries and letters to the editor. The editor-in-chief is Dr. Richard Strange of Birkbeck College, University of London, UK.

  1. The New journal on Food Security is very relevant to my area of specialisation, which is Food security. For my PhD, which I obtained in November 2008 from Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, I researched on “HIV/AIDS and Food Security in Rufiji District, Tanzania”.

I sent email to editorial office, no response. and sent email to editor-in-cheif, he is out of office with no email connection until August 30th. I browse the homepage of the journal, and can not found any other contact info! God! It seems that the journal is a little inefficient!

    Thanks.

    1. You can send us something newsworthy on agricultural biodiversity in your country and we can certainly consider publishing it, but we’re not a peer-reviewed journal, we’re just a blog! For that, you’d have to go here, but we have nothing to do with that journal.

  21. Congratulations to Jeremy and Luigi for patiently curating this discussion. Can’t help thinking though that if we (food insecure masses awash in junk food and bilious cola) had food and agri students and researchers actually growing more tasty and nutritious beans, veggies, tubers and what-have-you themselves, this new journal could well rechristen itself ‘Happy Home Gardens of the Two-Thirds World’ and still not lack for contributions.
