Rhizowen noted that it is possible to buy at least one kind of Pluot® in Europe. Graines Baumaux offers the variety Flavor Supreme® for €26.70. This is the same Graines Baumaux that initiated a prosecution of seedsavers (and merchants) Kokopelli Association because, by failing to register varieties, Kokopelli enjoyed an “unfair trading advantage”.
It would be very remiss of me to suggest that one could almost certainly easily graft a Pluot onto a normal plum rootstock, or even a dwarfing rootstock, if one were so minded.
Touché. I wasn’t entirely comfortable with promoting Graines Baumaux in the light of their dastardly behaviour towards Kokopelli Association. I just happened to remember seeing Pluots for sale in their catalogue and was too lazy to look elsewhere for alternative suppliers. Maybe someone with a better knowledge of the European fruit tree industry would care to enlighten us.
Apparently Brontosaur egg Pluot® is being grown down in Seville by Royal, as a speciality crop for children.
I can quite easily envisage a mishap with a sharp implement leading to the inadvertent grafting of a Pluot onto a suitable rootstock. Accidents will happen.
