Wild turkeys strolling in downtown Manhattan! I obviously missed this earlier posting but it raises some interesting questions. Those involved in the recovery plan obviously significantly overestimated the amount of suitable habitat required. But what size of population are they talking about when assuming that 6,000 acres of contiguous forest was required. Is it a single turkey, a breeding pair, a larger sized population? What is the minimum population size? How close are these predictions for other species, both plant and animal?
