Nutritionist tells researchers what to eat shock

According to a report over at the Vaviblog, Bioversity’s nutritionist Jessica Fanzo was beset by questioners after her talk at the Vavilov Institute mentioned both the bad nutritional status of most Russians and the high nutritional value of some fruits and berries at the threatened Pavlovsk Experiment Station. She was bombarded with requests for advice. The Vaviblog’s correspondent reports:

One response stuck in my mind. Jessica was asked whether one couldn’t get all the vitamins and minerals one needs from pills. She said yes, but you have to get everything else from food, so why not the vitamins as well, by choosing your food better?

Especially if you like your potatoes processed and potable.

  1. I hope they know that pills have many synthetic and non soluble vitamins which eventually cause Toxins in human body. But in food its all natural. If pills could substitute everything, then there wont be any problem of malnutrition. Also, people dont read the pill bottles carefully which clearly state “Take with regular meal” …else it would say either take pill or food…

  2. I didn’t say “yes” i said “you could” take a pill, with an ellipsis and a sigh attached to the end. And I think I remember talking about whole foods…again ellipsis and sigh. G-man’s interpretation is a kicker but I guess it was all a bit lost in translation…(sigh).

    1. Sorry about that. There was a lot of talking all at once as I remember and I was trying desperately to listen while also taking notes. Should have recorded it, I guess. It would be interesting to know what happened in the translation.
