Follow your tree in Google Earth

I agree with Frank Taylor at Google Earth Blog: it is a really good idea. You go to mybabytree.org, pay $5.50, and WWF plants a tree (you have a choice of 3 species) for you in Sebangau National Forest in Kalimantan, Indonesia, and sends you a KML file of its location. How about doing the same for heirloom varieties of fruit trees or something?

  1. This is a pretty cool idea. They even take Paypal! It would be even cooler if stuff like this caught on so well that we had to have meta-sites where you could track all your charitable donations on a map (trees in Indonesia, a goat in Africa, teosinte in Mexico, fruit trees in the US…).

I can’t wait to get my KML file :-).

  2. I am so happy I found you at last. Please accept my thanks and appreciation for a job well done. Could you please advice me on rearing and breeding swine (hog), sheep and goat in West Africa-Liberia.And the best breed that can thrive (survive) well in Liberia.
Look forward to hearing from you.
    Regard

  3. Thanks, and welcome, Charles. I’m afraid that livestock rearing in West Africa is no something we know much about here, and a quick search on the internet did not reveal any obvious source of practical advice. I can only refer you to your national extension service (is there one?), ILRI and perhaps Heifer International. There’s a nice list of animal breeds here, but I’m not sure how useful it will be to you. I realize that’s not particularly helpful, which says something in itself. I’ll keep looking.
