    Why limit yourself to `indigenous’ (the word should be banned) when introduced species could perform better? I remember sitting at over 3000m up in the Andes and finding I was on a very thick sward of Kikuyu grass (Pennisetum clandestinum) last seen in Kenya. It was the basis for dairying above the tree-line (using non-indigenous cattle).
    Oddly, – and apart from Ethiopia (?) – there seems to be no cattle herding above the tree-line in tropical Africa.
